The most useful records you can consult at provincial state archives (usually open weekday mornings) are vital statistics acts of birth, marriage and death between 1820 and 1860. Concentrate on acts of birth and marriage rather than acts of death, which do not provide as much accurate information which will advance a lineage.

This means that the italian birth records are old document handwritten by the italian officer of the town in those times. (in this they are very different compared to birth certificates)

I have seen a lot of posts on Facebook recently where people have asked how to find Italian birth records, do I have to pay etc. The best place to start in my opinion is the Italian Record site Antenati.. This site has been digitizing the Italian Civil records that date back to 1809.
